If I could raid anyone’s closet, it would be Esther Quek’s. Born and raised in Singapore, she is the style editor of magazines, The Rake, La Femme, and Revolution, while frequently contributing to Condé Nast Traveller. I came across her one day while I was searching up tomboy styles for work and I see this seemingly flawless woman in a perfectly tailored floral blazer and hot pink pants wearing sunglasses and short hair. At that moment, I found my style muse. The more I looked at her photos, I was completely blow away at how put together her outfits were and how great she looked in menswear, not to mention her obvious love of bold color.
While her style may come across as more androgynous to some, I see is as fiercely feminine. Ester takes menswear pieces and combines them with stilettos, jewelry, purses, stylish sunglasses, and bright lipstick to create a look at is uniquely her own. Besides admiring her style, I also love the confidence she exudes and how her presence seems to command attention. As I’m now pushing my career into overdrive, this is something that I want to replicate in my life. Living in the Pacific Northwest, fashion takes a serious backseat and that is unfortunate. I am a firm believer that what you wear has an impact on how you feel, as well as how other’s view you.
She has inspired me to make some changes to my style and leave some of my Pac Northwest tomboy grunge look for the weekends. And I love it. It’s amazing what a good pair of heels, a good fitting bra, and some lipstick does to you. I stand taller, walk with more confidence, and I just feel damn good. So I urge you to find a style icon who inspires you and pick some things you can bring into your life, something awesome might happen.
